Another Joke for Week Six

Haircut before a trip

A man was getting a haircut prior to a trip to Rome. He mentioned the trip to the barber who responded, "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded & dirty and full of Italians. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?"

"We're taking TWA," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"

"TWA?" exclaimed the barber. "That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?"

"We'll be at the downtown International Marriott.""That dump! That's the worst hotel in the city. The rooms are small, the service is surly and they're overpriced. So, whatcha doing when you get there?"

"We're going to go to see the Vatican and we hope to see the Pope."

"That's rich," laughed the barber. "You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."

A month later, the man again came in for his regular haircut. The barber asked him about his trip to Rome."It was wonderful," explained the man, "not only were we on time in one of TWA's brand new planes, but it was overbooked and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a beautiful 28 year old flight attendant who waited on me hand and foot.

And the hotel-it was great! They'd just finished a $25 million remodeling job and now it's the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us the presidential suite at no extra charge!"

"Well," muttered the barber, "I know you didn't get to see the pope."

"Actually, we were quite lucky, for as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder and explained that the pope likes to personally meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait the pope would personally greet me. Sure enough, five minutes later the pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down as he spoke a few words to me."

"Really?" asked the Barber. "What'd he say?"

He said, "Where'd you get the lousy (terrible) haircut?

Joke for Week Six

Pessimist and a dog

An avid (passionate) duck hunter was in the market for (wanted to buy) a new bird dog. His search ended when he found a dog that could actually walk on water to retrieve (bring back) a duck. Shocked by his find, he was sure none of his friends would ever believe him.

He decided to try to break the news to a friend of his, the eternal (always) pessimist who refused to be impressed with anything. This, surely, would impress him. He invited him to hunt with him and his new dog.

As they waited by the shore, a flock of ducks flew by. They fired (their guns), and a duck fell. The dog responded and jumped into the water. The dog, however, did not sink but instead walked across the water to retrieve the bird, never getting more than his paws wet.

This continued all day long; each time a duck fell, the dog walked across the surface of the water to retrieve it.

The pessimist watched carefully, saw everything, but did not say a single word.

On the drive home the hunter asked his friend, "Did you notice anything unusual about my new dog?"

"I sure did," responded the pessimist. "Your dog can't swim."

JOKE FOR WEEK FOUR

Mike and Ab were taking 030 core ESL at the University of Regina. They were so confident going into the final that two days before, they decided to go up to the Calgary and party with some friends. They had a great time. However, they overslept and didn't make it back to the university until the morning of the exam.

Rather than take the final, they found their professor afterward to explain why they missed the final. They told her that they went up to the Calgary for the weekend, and had planned to come back in time to study, but that they had a flat tire on the way back, and didn't have a spare, and couldn't get help for a long time, so they were late in getting back to campus. The professor thought this over and told them they could make up the final on the following day. The two guys were relieved. They studied that night and went in the next day for the final. The professor placed them in separate rooms, and handed each of them a test booklet and told them to begin.

They looked at the first problem, which was worth 5 points. It was something simple. "Cool," they thought. "This is going to be easy." They did that problem and then turned the page.

Question #2 said: "Which tire?" (95 Points).

Joke for Week Three

A Business Loan

A businessman walked into a bank in San Francisco and asked for the loan officer. He told the officer that he is going to Europe on business for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000. The bank officer explained that the bank needed some kind of security for such a loan. So the businessman handed over the keys to a Rolls Royce (a very expenisve car) parked on the street in front of the bank. Everything checked out (was good), and the bank agreed to accept the car as guarantee for the loan. A bank employee drove the Rolls into the bank's underground garage and parked it there.

Two weeks later, the businessman returned, repaid the $5,000 with interes, which came to $15.41. The loan officer said, "We are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled (confused). While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is why would you bother to borrow $5,000?" The businessman replied, "Where else in San Francisco can I park my car for two weeks for only 15 bucks (dollars)?"

Joke for Week One

My three-year-old son came out of the bathroom smiling. “I brushed my teeth”, he said, “and then I brushed Sally’s teeth.” Sally is our elderly yellow Labrador retriever (dog). Horrified, I tried to explain to Justin that it wasn’t a good idea for him to brush Sally’s teeth, and that we’d have to go into town and buy him a new toothbrush.A few days later, as we were both brushing our teeth, Justin asked, “ Mommy, why did I have to get a new toothbrush?”“Remember” I said patiently, “you used your toothbrush to brush Sally’s teeth, so we went and go you a brand-new one.”Justin thought about this before replying: “but Mommy, I didn’t use my toothbrush on Sally’s teeth. I used yours.”

Hi and Welcome to 030

Let me tell you a bit about myself. My name is Rita. I have been teaching ESL for quite a long time - 17 years. I love teaching here at the U of R. My teaching philosophy is "work hard, do your best and have fun." What is your learning philosophy?

I got married in April 2006. Norm, my husband, has two sons, Isaac and Zach, so that makes me a step-mom. Norm is a civil engineer. Isacc is 12 years old and loves computer games. Zach is 19 and is studying media communications at college.I got a dog about a year ago. His name is Fritz. He is a cockapoo - part Cocker Spaniel and part Poodle. He is very cute and very naughty. If you know anything about training dogs, please let me know. I need all the help I can get.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, why don't you post a message and tell a little about yourself.

Rita
